Wildlife Tour

We were a little disappointed that we had not seen much wildlife (in particular the famous White-tailed Eagles and Golden Eagles) so we booked a wildlife tour with Isle of Skye Wildlife tours. This was a most enjoyable trip. There were five other visitors on the tour. We did manage to see Sea Eagles and Golden Eagles (from a distance) but we spent an awfully long time searching for otters (without success). This wasn’t the disaster it sounds as whilst searching for the otters we saw cormorants, shags, gannets, great northern divers, red throated divers, red breasted mergansers, eider ducks, a black guillemot and (probably the highlight) a twite. We also visited parts of the island we wouldn’t have accessed without our helpful guide Andy.

Back on the Waternish peninsula we made another visit to the Skyeskyns tannery where there was a very good demonstration of the making of sheep skins and a very good showroom of products. How we escaped without making a purchase I’ll never know.
