We took a taxi to Groot Constantia Wine estate, the oldest wine-producing farm in South Africa, and made full opportunity with a visit to the winery, a wine tasting and lunch in the Jonkershuis restaurant. The wine estate was founded by Simon van der Stel in 1685 and is set in beautiful surroundings below the Constantiaberg with most interesting Cape Dutch architecture.
In the afternoon we returned to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens to walk off our lunch – a tall order in the heat of the day.
