Trip to Inner Hebrides May 2017 (Days 12 & 13)

Day 12 – Tuesday 23rd May

Before setting off south we drove up to the Ardanaiseig Hotel which had most impressive gardens, full of azaleas, and wonderful views of the loch. On the road back we caught sight of a magnificent stag amongst the fresh bracken.

We arrived early enough at Appleby-in-Westmoreland to have a decent walk around the town. The circular walk took in a stretch of the River Eden which was very much home from home with views of grey wagtail, pied wagtail, mallard and their ducklings, swallows, black-headed gulls. A great end to our holiday.

Unfortunately the next day there was a detour via north Wales on our journey home as the M6 was closed following a fatal accident. Nonetheless, the journey was not too tortuous and we enjoyed the wonderful spring countryside.
