Saturday 20th April 2024 – Raptor feeding station at Santiago del Campo

We returned north again, into the countryside beyond Cáceres, to see the raptor feeding station at Santiago del Campo. We had very good views of black and red kites, black and Griffon vultures and even a Spanish imperial eagle. I have been to red kite feeding stations in Wales and I have mixed feelings about them. I must say they present wonderful photographic opportunities but It’s not quite birding in the normal sense.

In the hide at Santiago del Campo getting ready for the raptor feeding. By all accounts the window is mirrored so that the birds don’t see you.

From here we moved on to Trujillo for some lunch and a spot of tourism.

Slideshow of visit to Trujillo

Before heading home we had a look at lesser kestrels in the town. Other birds were available…

It was a cloudy cool start at the raptor feeding station and there was thunder around Trujillo but, fortunately, we escaped getting wet.
