10th November 2025 – WWT Slimbridge, Gloucestershire

Bird watching is not all about sunshine and blue skies as we discovered on a trip to WWT Slimbridge (and as we have discovered many times before).

Shelduck

However, there is generally some reward and ours came near the end of our session when a Temminck’s stint appeared. Temminck’s stints don’t appear in this part of the country very often, only generally appearing in the east of England in migratory seasons: this one though has been reported here regularly in recent weeks, although eluding us until just before we were leaving.

As well as seeing this lovely little bird we fortunately managed to move between hides (and café) without getting wet at all.

A few other shots between the rain:

    Hello Martin,
Thank you very much for sharing the lovely video and beautiful images.
I personally prefer the subdued lighting that cloudy skies and rainy weather offer. But of course sunshine is welcome too☺️
    Kind regards,

Thanks for your comment, Takami. I enjoyed doing the video (a new venture for me) as it really captured the atmosphere of the morning. I agree with you that it is sometimes preferential to deal with indifferent lighting but yesterday was often too challenging. My shots in my viewfinder were certainly better than what I achieved when I edited them. All good fun though.

Hi lucky that you managed to see this bird. The water is great in these photographs.

You are amazing, Robbie. You always find something nice to say. Thank you. Yes, I put the video on YouTube and it doesn’t then take up lots of my allocation which is getting very low.

Yes, I had to delete a lot of photographs from earlier posts a few years ago 🩷
